China Reports Zero New COVID-19 Cases

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 28th, the closing day of the Two Sessions, there were no new COVID-19 cases reported in China.

On the 29th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, there were 0 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. There were also 0 additional deaths and 0 new suspected cases.

This is the first time since the 22nd that China has reported zero new COVID-19 cases.

The number of asymptomatic infections, which the Chinese government does not include in the confirmed case classification, increased by only 5 in one day. Four of these were locally transmitted cases, and one was an imported case. Currently, there are 409 asymptomatic infections under medical observation within China.

Meanwhile, both inside and outside China, attention was focused on the possibility that China might declare a complete end to COVID-19 during this Two Sessions period. However, recently, cluster infections and re-importations of COVID-19 have continued in Jilin Province and other areas, preventing a declaration of complete eradication of COVID-19.
