[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] "I check whether photos and videos uploaded to SNS contain personal information. I do not click on links included in texts, emails, or SNS messages from unknown sources."
SK Telecom is participating in a government-wide joint campaign for personal information protection.
On the 29th, SK Telecom announced that it will join the '2020 Personal Information Protection Awareness Week Campaign,' hosted by the Personal Information Protection Commission and involving 779 government agencies including central administrative agencies, public institutions, local governments, and public enterprises.
The Personal Information Protection Awareness Week Campaign is an annual event held since 2015 by the Personal Information Protection Commission in cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) to raise awareness of personal information protection and promote voluntary personal information protection activities.
SK Telecom participated in the campaign launch ceremony held on the 22nd, signing a joint public-private cooperation agreement, and will continue to participate in the event running until June 24. The company plans to display an online banner titled "A Small Promise You and I Keep" on the official T World website and post promotional posters inside the SKT Tower building.
Clicking the banner on the T World website directs users to a campaign homepage separately prepared by the Personal Information Protection Commission, where citizens, public institutions, and businesses can check the personal information protection guidelines set by the commission.
The guidelines for individuals include ▲checking whether photos and videos uploaded to SNS contain personal information and ▲not clicking on links included in texts, emails, or SNS messages from unknown sources. Public institutions are advised to ▲grant personal information access rights only to those who need it for work and ▲check whether attachments uploaded to websites contain personal information. Businesses are also required to ▲not collect resident registration numbers without legal grounds and ▲encrypt personal information files when storing, transmitting, or uploading them.
Lee Ki-yoon, Head of Customer Value Innovation at SK Telecom, said, "We are making our best efforts to protect customer information by operating a 24-hour integrated security control center, conducting on-site inspections and educational consulting on customer information management at agencies, and carrying out various smishing and voice phishing prevention activities. We will implement even more thorough customer information protection activities through participation in the 2020 Personal Information Protection Awareness Week Campaign."
SK Telecom has recently collaborated with the Financial Security Institute to jointly develop a voice phishing prevention system and is actively engaged in various customer information protection activities. Additionally, to strengthen information security for mobile subscribers, SK Telecom launched the world's first quantum-secured 5G smartphone and is striving to build information protection systems and services.
