[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] On the 29th, Statistics Korea announced that it selected five exemplary cases of proactive administration in the first half of 2020 to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), including the daily price survey of masks.
The proactive administration cases related to COVID-19 selected by Statistics Korea include ▲preemptive establishment of a COVID-19 disease code ▲introduction of daily price surveys for masks both online and offline ▲analysis of domestic population movement patterns based on big data ▲support for online learning for students with 10,000 tablet PCs ▲launch of web services related to COVID-19 statistical response.
In addition, Statistics Korea is fully committed to proactive administration to overcome COVID-19 by establishing an emergency response team for field surveys and operating field survey guidelines according to situations.
Kang Shinwook, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, stated, "Behind the government’s COVID-19 response policies lies the swift and comprehensive government innovation efforts and proactive administration by Statistics Korea. If statistics do not function properly, it is difficult to expect sound policy responses for the country and its people."
Meanwhile, Statistics Korea plans to expand the members of the Private Participation Proactive Administration Support Committee, which deliberates and decides on proactive administration, and newly form a public monitoring group.
