Dobong-gu Accepting Applications for Flood and Windstorm Insurance Until June 30... Free Installation of Indoor Backflow Prevention and Water Barriers to Prevent Flooding
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dong-jin Lee) is accepting applications for enrollment in the ‘Flood and Windstorm Insurance’ and ‘Free Installation of Flood Prevention Facilities’ to compensate for property damage caused by natural disasters such as floods and windstorms during the summer heavy rain season.
Flood and windstorm insurance is a national policy insurance where the government and local governments subsidize part of the insurance premium to provide practical compensation to citizens who suffer property damage caused by natural disasters such as typhoons, heavy rain, and earthquakes.
The eligible facilities include houses (including movable property), greenhouses (including vinyl houses), commercial buildings, and factories.
In particular, from this year, the flood and windstorm insurance for small business owners has been expanded nationwide, allowing local small business operators to also enroll in the insurance.
The self-pay amount ranges from 28,800 KRW to 52,200 KRW.
Currently, the district is actively encouraging enrollment for houses where complaints have been received during heavy rain and households with flood prevention facilities installed to protect residents’ private property from flood and windstorm damage.
For enrollment inquiries, contact private insurance companies selling flood and windstorm insurance (DB Insurance, Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, KB Insurance, NH Nonghyup). For other inquiries, contact the Dobong-gu Office Water Management Division.
For basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income groups living in low-lying (basement) areas (tenants only), the enrollment fee is fully supported.
The district is accepting group enrollment applications for flood and windstorm insurance for homeless basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income groups until June 30. Enrollment is free of charge. The insurance coverage period is one year. Applications can be made at the nearest community service center.
The district also operates a year-round free installation project for ‘Backflow Prevention Facilities’ and ‘Water Blocking Panels’ to prevent flood damage in low-lying and semi-basement houses. However, the project may end early if the budget is exhausted.
The backflow prevention facility (indoor backflow valve) is a device that prevents sewage from flowing back into sinks and drains of underground houses during the rainy season, and the water blocking panel is installed in underground houses where entrances and windows are lower than the road level, posing a risk of rainwater inflow.
Applicants include residents of flood-vulnerable houses such as low-lying underground houses (including tenants), and applications can be submitted to the local community service center or the district office Water Management Division.
The district has been operating the ‘Flood and Windstorm Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters’ from the 15th of last month until October 15.
The ‘Flood and Windstorm Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters’ is organized under the headquarters chief (mayor), deputy chief (vice mayor), and controller (director of the Safety, Construction, and Transportation Bureau), with 13 task forces operating a 24-hour emergency duty system in stages to prepare for various weather conditions such as summer heavy rain and large typhoons.
In particular, from February to April this year, the district conducted a comprehensive inspection and maintenance of 184 flood-vulnerable facilities (construction sites, rivers, flood control facilities, slope facilities, etc.) in two phases.
Additionally, the district is actively promoting disaster prevention projects such as the Dobong 1,000 ‘Flood and Windstorm Mitigation Project’ and the ‘Sewer Dredging Project’ before the rainy season, making every effort to prepare in advance for flood and windstorm disasters.
Mayor Dong-jin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “Residents living in low-lying and semi-basement houses are asked to cooperate by inspecting household sewage pipes, drainage pumps, and flood prevention facilities in advance to prevent flood damage during the summer.”
