[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The Boston Marathon has finally been canceled this year due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

According to AP News and others on the 28th (local time), the Boston Marathon organizing committee stated in a press release announced that day, "Protecting the health of our staff, participants, volunteers, supporters, and the community is our top priority," explaining the reason for the cancellation.

The Boston Marathon was originally scheduled to be held on April 20 this year but was postponed to September 14 due to the COVID-19 situation.

This is the first time in the 124-year history of the Boston Marathon, one of the world's four major marathons, that the event has been canceled. Next year, it is scheduled to be held on April 19.
