[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the 28th (local time) to regulate social media (SNS).
On the afternoon of the same day, President Trump signed the executive order related to social media in his office and said he would also push for related legislation.
Regarding the executive order, President Trump said it means that they will no longer be protected by liability immunity.
On the 26th, when Twitter attached a 'fact-check needed' warning label to his tweet claiming that mail-in voting could lead to election fraud, President Trump strongly opposed it, saying it was suppressing freedom of the press, and warned that major actions would follow.
President Trump said that Twitter's choice to fact-check or ignore facts is nothing more than political activism and is inappropriate. Attorney General William Barr also said he is preparing legislation against social media companies and will file lawsuits against social media firms.
However, when asked why he does not delete his Twitter account, President Trump replied, "The news is fake. I will do so immediately when real news comes out."
On the same day, Twitter's stock price closed down 4.45%, and Facebook's fell 1.61% on the New York Stock Exchange.
