[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] Following Netflix and Disney Plus, WarnerMedia's HBO Max has joined the global online video service (OTT) competition as a latecomer.

According to economic media CNBC and others, HBO Max launched its streaming service in the United States on the 27th (local time). The plan is to secure 50 million subscribers by 2025 and become a leader in the OTT market competing with Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple Plus, Hulu, and others. Plans for expansion into overseas markets such as Korea have not yet been disclosed.

The service fee is $14.99 per month, which is more expensive compared to Netflix ($12.99) and Disney Plus ($6.99). However, it boasts a variety of content under WarnerMedia, including the drama "Game of Thrones," the sitcom "Friends," and the "Harry Potter" movie series, and is praised for streaming without advertisements. WarnerMedia, a subsidiary of the largest U.S. mobile carrier AT&T, owns channels and entertainment companies such as HBO, CNN, and Cartoon Network.

HBO Max plans to release a cheaper version of the streaming service app next year. However, the management stated that this app will include advertisements.

Looking at the HBO Max service unveiled on this day, CNBC reported that the home screen is similar to Disney Plus. Simultaneous streaming is also possible.
