[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Mobis has focused its development capabilities on core technologies of future car industries such as eco-friendly vehicles and autonomous vehicles, launching a global market offensive. In addition to the electric vehicles and autonomous driving product lines currently under development, Hyundai Mobis plans to actively explore new fields related to future mobility and transform itself into a leading technology company in future cars.
At the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition 'CES 2020' earlier this year, Hyundai Mobis received favorable reviews by showcasing autonomous driving core sensors such as cameras and radars, as well as communication lighting technology, on the electric vehicle sharing concept 'M Vision S.'

It is also investing generously in autonomous driving and electrification fields. First, it invested nearly 4 trillion won to expand production in the electrification sector and decided to concentrate about 3 to 4 trillion won in future car research and development. It will invest 150 billion won to discover promising domestic and overseas startups in essential fields such as cameras and sensors for autonomous driving and electrification.
Along with this, Hyundai Mobis has set a goal to develop independent autonomous driving sensors by this year and is accelerating efforts to secure the technology. Since accurately reading the external driving environment is crucial for perfect autonomous driving, it is focusing on developing high-performance sensors.
Based on this independent sensor technology, the company plans to secure autonomous driving technology solutions as well. Through collaboration with Russian IT company Yandex, it is developing an autonomous driving platform and is expected to secure level 4 or higher autonomous driving technology by participating in the Aptiv joint venture strategically promoted by Hyundai Motor Group.
