[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 27th that it has formed a partnership with the global esports specialist company 'SK Telecom CS T1 (hereinafter T1)' to target the gaming monitor market.
T1 is an esports specialist company jointly established last year by SK Telecom and the U.S. media and entertainment group 'Comcast,' operating 10 esports teams including 'League of Legends' and 'Battlegrounds.'
Samsung Electronics will exclusively provide Samsung gaming monitors Odyssey G9 and G7 to T1's esports players.
The Samsung gaming monitors Odyssey G9 (49-inch) and G7 (32- and 27-inch) feature ▲1ms response time based on G2G ▲240Hz high refresh rate ▲Eye Comfort certification ▲world's highest curvature 1000R QLED curved panel, and are scheduled for domestic release in June.
T1 will name the esports players' dedicated training space in the T1 Seoul headquarters, opening in the first half of this year, as the 'Samsung Player Lounge,' where G9 and G7 monitors will be installed and used as the players' official gaming monitors.
T1 players will wear uniforms bearing the 'Odyssey' logo, Samsung Electronics' integrated product name for gaming, during esports competitions going forward.
Additionally, Samsung Odyssey monitors will be utilized for online and offline marketing at players' fan meetings, the T1 website, and official social media channels.
League of Legends star pro gamer 'Faker (Lee Sang-hyeok)' of T1 said, "I will deliver good results to meet the support and expectations of fans and widely promote Samsung gaming monitor Odyssey to esports fans worldwide."
T1 CEO Joe Marsh stated, "We expect the esports industry to grow further through this collaboration with Samsung," adding, "We will actively support not only players but gamers worldwide to experience the differentiated performance of Samsung gaming monitors."
Ha Hyesung, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, emphasized, "We will continue to expand strategic collaborations with the gaming industry for the development of the esports industry."
Market research firm IDC forecasted that the global gaming monitor market will grow from $3.6 billion this year to $4.5 billion in 2023.
