[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The Spanish government has declared a ten-day official mourning period to honor those who died from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).


On the 26th (local time), the Spanish government announced that starting from the 27th, a ten-day period will be designated nationwide to mourn the COVID-19 victims.


During this period, the Spanish flag will be flown at half-mast on all public institution buildings and naval vessels across the country, and on the final day of mourning, May 5th, an official ceremony presided over by the King will take place.


Meanwhile, according to the international statistics site Worldometer, Spain currently has a cumulative total of 282,480 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 26,837 deaths.
