Russian Military Helicopters Crash Consecutively Within a Week... Possible 'Mechanical Malfunction'

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A Russian Mi-8 helicopter crashed, resulting in 4 deaths. Following the helicopter crash on the 19th, another helicopter accident occurred within just a week.


On the 26th (local time), according to Russian TASS news agency, a helicopter crash occurred near Ugolnye Kopi airfield in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of Russia. Citing sources, TASS reported, "4 people lost their lives," and added, "Preliminary investigations suggest the crash was due to a technical defect."


The Russian Ministry of Defense is also suspecting the possibility of equipment malfunction.


With the black box and other data from the crashed helicopter confirmed, efforts to determine the cause of the accident are expected to proceed.


Previously, on the 19th, a Mi-8 helicopter also crashed in Russia, killing 3 people. According to the Russian military, the helicopter crashed in an uninhabited area north of Moscow. At that time as well, equipment malfunction was considered a possible cause of the accident.
