GS25 Parcel Service Introduces Contactless Prepayment System

GS25 Parcel Service Introduces Contactless Prepayment System

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] A non-face-to-face advance payment system will be introduced for convenience store parcel delivery services.

GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, announced on the 26th that it will introduce a system that allows customers using parcel delivery services to prepay the delivery fee through the Payco app.

This system adds a non-face-to-face advance payment option for delivery fees via the simple payment platform Payco app to the existing system where customers visited GS25 stores in person to send parcels and pay delivery fees face-to-face.

This advance payment system for parcel delivery became possible through a business agreement between CVSnet Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of GS Retail (operator of Post Box), and NHN Payco to promote simple payment for convenience store parcel delivery and activate convenience store parcel delivery services.

Customers can enter basic information such as the item details and delivery address of the parcel they want to send in the ‘Parcel Reservation’ section within the Life menu of the Payco app and prepay the delivery fee.

Once the advance payment is completed, an approval number for the parcel is sent to the customer. The customer can then visit the nearest GS25, enter the approval number on the parcel kiosk, and measure the parcel weight to easily complete the parcel registration.

The maximum weight for parcels that can be sent with advance payment is 25 kg, and the delivery fee is 3,500 KRW for the same zone and 4,000 KRW for different zones (additional surcharges apply for Jeju Island, island areas, and high-value items), regardless of weight.

The parcel advance payment system introduced by GS25 has been applied first to general parcel delivery services and will be sequentially applied to half-price parcels, same-day parcels, and international parcels.

To commemorate the introduction of the parcel advance payment system, GS25 is holding an event until June 24 where new Payco app users can use GS25 parcel delivery for 100 KRW, and for the first 10,000 existing Payco app users, there will be three opportunities to use GS25 parcel delivery at a discounted price of 500 KRW.

Meanwhile, GS25 is accelerating the expansion of its half-price parcel delivery service by extending the operating area of the new concept parcel service, first introduced in the industry last year, to Jeju Island as of the 25th.

Cha Jeonghyun, GS Retail’s parcel MD, said, "We introduced the advance payment system for convenience store parcel delivery services in line with the expansion of the convenience premium and non-face-to-face consumption trends. We will continue to develop and introduce new lifestyle services and focus on improving customer convenience by continuously enhancing the various services currently in operation."
