Each Dong Community Center and Residents' Autonomy Committee Accept Resident Autonomy Project Proposals Until June 15...Grassroots Democracy Projects Conducted in 10 Neighborhoods within Seongbuk-gu
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced that it will start accepting proposals for resident autonomy projects for the resident autonomy plan simultaneously from the 25th.
The resident autonomy plan to be accepted this time refers to setting the project plan of the resident autonomy council, where residents gather to identify neighborhood problems, find tasks to be done, and solve them by themselves.
The resident autonomy council is a resident representative organization at the neighborhood level, composed of voluntary resident participation and open recruitment. It is a resident representative body guaranteed substantial roles and authority to establish and directly execute the resident autonomy plan through active discussions and consultations.
In Seongbuk-gu, through the second phase expansion of the resident autonomy council last October, resident autonomy councils are operated in a total of 10 neighborhoods (△Seongbuk-dong, △Samseon-dong, △Dongseon-dong, △Bomun-dong, △Jeongneung 2-dong, △Gireum 1-dong, △Jongam-dong, △Wolgok 2-dong, △Jangwi 1-dong, △Seokgwan-dong).
Anyone who is a resident of Seongbuk-gu can submit a project proposal. The form can be downloaded from the Seongbuk-gu Office website, filled out, and submitted by visiting the neighborhood community center or via email by June 15.
The project proposals submitted by residents will be concretized and the execution of the projects will be decided after sufficient discussion and deliberation within the resident autonomy council.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Since deciding and solving neighborhood problems by the residents themselves can be considered a representative function of resident autonomy, I hope many residents will provide their opinions,” urging active participation.
The Seongbuk-gu resident autonomy council completed about 30 projects in two pilot neighborhoods on the 19th, and although delayed temporarily due to COVID-19, about 60 projects will be carried out in 10 neighborhoods this year.
In the first half of 2021, the resident autonomy council will be expanded to all neighborhoods in Seongbuk-gu, spreading a resident-led participatory culture where residents solve local problems by themselves.
