[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] A man in his 60s who killed his partner suspected of cheating was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
The Criminal Division 1 of Tongyeong Branch of Changwon District Court announced on the 25th that A (60), who was tried on charges of killing his partner B (37) by strangulation, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On February 16 of this year, A demanded a conversation at B's residence in Geoje, Gyeongnam, but when refused, he hit B with his fist. When B called a friend pleading "Please save me," A strangled B with his hands, killing him.
A was known to have suspected B of having an affair with someone else and was dissatisfied because B seemed to be trying to break up with him.
The court stated, "A presented an incomprehensible motive for the crime, saying 'I killed B because I loved him,' and the victim's family is petitioning for a heavy sentence," adding, "Considering various circumstances, we impose a sentence exceeding the upper limit of the sentencing guidelines."
