Recognized as an Outstanding Municipality Among 44 Child-Friendly City Certified Local Governments

Gwangyang City Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Award for Creating Child-Friendly Environment

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City, Jeonnam, announced on the 13th that it has been selected as an 'Outstanding Local Government for Creating a Child-Friendly Environment' and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.

This commendation was awarded by comprehensively evaluating the respect for children's rights, contribution to child welfare, and social evaluation among 44 local governments nationwide that have received UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification, selecting excellent local governments that can serve as model cases for other local governments.

Since becoming the first city in Jeonnam to receive UNICEF Korea Committee's Child-Friendly City certification in 2018, the city has been promoting 59 projects in six areas this year: play and culture, participation and civic consciousness, safety and protection, health and social services, educational environment, and family environment, continuously discovering new projects that guarantee children's rights and support healthy growth.

Kim Min-young, head of the Child-Friendly City Division, said, "Entering the third year of Child-Friendly City certification, this year we will conduct a child-friendly survey and child impact assessment to reorganize project directions and do our best to lay the foundation for re-certification as a Child-Friendly City."
