[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] Another fake milk powder incident has erupted in China, which was already shaken by the 2008 melamine milk powder scandal, sparking controversy.

According to China Xin Jing Bao on the 13th, the Market Supervision Bureau of Yongxing County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, immediately launched an investigation after infants consumed fake milk powder and developed abnormally enlarged skulls. The investigation team is currently examining the company that produced the milk powder and plans to conduct comprehensive health checkups for the five affected infants. The Market Supervision Bureau stated that there is no evidence yet of involvement by doctors or hospitals in this fake milk powder incident.

The children who consumed the fake milk powder experienced protruding skulls with enlarged heads, eczema, weight loss, and other side effects. These symptoms appeared because the milk powder they consumed contained no real milk powder ingredients, leading to nutritional deficiencies and rickets. Rickets is a bone disease caused by vitamin D deficiency, accompanied by bone deformities and growth disorders. The investigation team revealed that what the children consumed was not milk powder but rather a type of solid beverage.

In China, in 2008, infants who consumed fake milk powder containing melamine either lost their lives or suffered side effects. Many parents in China still distrust domestically produced milk powder, frequently purchasing large quantities of milk powder from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and other places.
