[Asia Economy Jang Sehee] On the 13th, Statistics Korea announced that it held the appointment ceremony for advisory committee members of the 2020 Population and Housing Census and convened the first advisory committee meeting at Lotte City Hotel in Daejeon.
To gather opinions from external experts regarding the 2020 Population and Housing Census to be conducted in November this year, Statistics Korea appointed 20 experts from various fields, including academia and research institutions, as advisory committee members. They discussed the successful execution of the Population and Housing Census and ways to utilize the survey results in the future.
This year's Population and Housing Census includes a total of 56 survey items, including seven new items such as safety, environment, and activity limitation care. Among these, 11 items will be replaced with administrative data, and only 45 items will be surveyed on-site to minimize the response burden on the public.
Additionally, in line with the social preference for non-face-to-face surveys, internet surveys will be expanded from PCs to mobile devices. For respondents who have difficulty accessing the internet, call center functions will be expanded to allow responses via telephone.
In this year's Population and Housing Census, interviews will be conducted using tablet PCs, enabling the use of electronic maps reflecting geographic information technology.
Meanwhile, Statistics Korea plans to advance the publication of the census results by three months compared to the previous cycle, providing data starting from September 2021.
