[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The consignment operation period of the Hanok hotel 'Gyeongwonjae Ambassador' located in Songdo International City, owned by the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, has been extended by five years.
On the 12th, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced that it had signed a five-year consignment operation renewal contract with Ambassador Hotel Group (Seohansa Co., Ltd.) for Gyeongwonjae, whose consignment operation period ended last month.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority held a private consignment renewal evaluation committee composed of experts to assess the past operational performance, service, and future plans, resulting in a score of 88.84 out of 100, leading to the decision to renew the contract.
Opened in 2015, Gyeongwonjae has a total floor area of 6,500㎡ and features 30 guest rooms, banquet halls, a Korean restaurant, conference rooms, and a fitness center. The annual room occupancy rate increased from 60.8% in 2016 to 69.8% last year.
The hotel was built following the main architectural styles of the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, with participation from master craftsmen representing Korea, including master carpenter Choi Ki-young (Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 74), recreating the beauty of traditional Hanok architecture.
Gyeongwonjae is also the only Hanok hotel in Korea to have received a 5-star rating through the Korea Tourism Organization's grading evaluation, establishing itself as a landmark of Songdo International City. It provides visitors not only with accommodation and meals but also opportunities to experience traditional culture.
In April last year, a National Tourism Strategy Meeting was held here, presided over by President Moon Jae-in, attended by the Prime Minister, ministers and vice ministers of 13 ministries, and heads of 17 metropolitan local governments.
