[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The glowing ‘Deokbune’ on the wall of Seongbuk District Office is receiving praise from residents.

‘Deokbune’ is a logo light installed on the exterior wall of the Seongbuk District Office.

It expresses gratitude for the dedication and hard work of medical staff fighting on the front lines against COVID-19. It also supports and participates in the nationwide ‘Deokbune’ challenge and the blue light support campaign across Seoul.

The ‘Deokbune’ logo light is scheduled to shine daily from 7:30 PM to 4:30 AM the next day until the 27th of this month.

A Seongbuk District official stated, “To boost the morale of medical staff, we combined the symbolic image of the government’s ongoing ‘Deokbune Challenge’ with the blue light campaign message ‘We’re All Heroes!’ and installed it. Many residents take photos in front of it and make the challenge’s hand gesture, showing their support and participation.”

Kim *jin (28), a resident of Bomun-dong who saw the logo light on the Seongbuk District Office wall on the way home from work, said, “It made me think of the medical staff working hard to overcome COVID-19 and reflect on my own neglected posture during this time. I hope everyone stays vigilant until the risk from COVID-19 disappears.”

Seongbuk District Mayor Lee Seung-ro also supported the ‘Deokbune’ logo light. He personally posed to endorse the ‘Deokbune’ campaign, spreading its purpose and cheering on the frontline medical staff fighting COVID-19.

The mayor said, “Although social distancing has been eased, it is too early to feel safe from the risk of COVID-19 infection. Many residents have praised this wonderful idea that encourages voluntary participation by seeing the ‘Deokbune’ light letters shining on the Seongbuk District Office wall, which makes me feel rewarded.”

This thoughtful emotional service using logo lights is not the first for Seongbuk District. In March, the Jeongneung 2-dong Community Center lit phrases such as ‘We support you, stay strong today too!’ and ‘You are the main character on the stage called life’ on its building wall to comfort local small business owners and residents affected by COVID-19.
