Seegene to Hire Approximately 400 Employees This Year... Five Times More Than Last Year

Over 180 Hired in IT, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering
Strengthening Future Competitiveness through Aggressive Recruitment
Additional Hiring of Over 220 Short-term Contract Workers

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Molecular diagnostics company Seegene announced on the 28th that it will significantly expand its hiring scale this year.

Seegene recently planned to hire about 40 specialists to prepare for the increased global demand for diagnostic kits following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the COVID-19 situation continues, the company decided to increase the hiring scale to about 180 to help address youth unemployment and particularly the job search difficulties faced by bio-industry personnel. As of the end of last year, Seegene had 317 employees, and it is expected to reach about 500 by the end of this year.

The company stated, "In the current situation where not only small and medium-sized enterprises but also large corporations are reluctant to hire new personnel due to the impact of COVID-19, we made this decision to fulfill our role as a national company established through the COVID-19 crisis."

In this recruitment, Seegene plans to aggressively secure talent not only in the field of biotechnology but also in IT, software (SW), mechanical engineering, mathematics, and industrial engineering. To continue growing as a cutting-edge molecular diagnostics company rather than a traditional bio company and to further solidify its global reputation and differentiation, the company aims to proactively secure future competitiveness in not only differentiated reagents but also equipment, analysis software, and production automation.

Additionally, to respond to the current government's job crisis breakthrough policy, the company will hire 220 short-term contract workers for production alongside regular employees. The wages will be paid at a remarkable level equivalent to regular employees rather than the minimum wage. The company explained that this is to actively respond to the surging demand for volume and to reduce the relative deprivation regarding jobs that young hires might feel, encouraging the challenges and dreams of young people.

Seegene expects that this large-scale recruitment will allow it to proactively secure the necessary talent according to its mid- to long-term business plans. Through continuous education and training of new personnel, the company plans to share clear directions and strategies and do its best to ensure they can continuously contribute to the company's growth. By strengthening the company's human competitiveness, it aims to achieve both quantitative and qualitative growth simultaneously.

A company representative said, "We will continue to steadily strengthen our global competitiveness and grow into a company that offers sufficient value for the youth of Korea to take on challenges," adding, "Furthermore, we will do our best as a company leading corporate social responsibility in economic revival and job creation."
