[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Chung Yong-jin, Vice Chairman of Shinsegae, has sold out the Haenam Motnani King Sweet Potatoes he purchased at the request of Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea.
According to Emart on the 24th, the daily stock of 36 tons of sweet potatoes that went on sale at Emart the day before was sold out around 5 to 6 p.m. On the same day, about 1,000 bags (3 tons) were sold on SSG.com as well.
Shinsegae TV Shopping, which was allocated 65 tons of stock, sold all the stock, exceeding the initial preparation. It is reported that about 90 tons of orders flooded in during the broadcast that lasted about an hour from 11:40 p.m. on the 23rd.
The sale of Motnani King Sweet Potatoes started with a request received by CEO Baek Jong-won on the SBS program "Delicious Rendezvous" aired on the 23rd. CEO Baek asked Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin to help resolve the inventory of Haenam King Sweet Potatoes. This was the second request following 30 tons of Gangwon-do Motnani potatoes in December last year.
In response, Vice Chairman Chung appeared surprised by the large quantity but said, "I will check with the staff. It probably won't be impossible. Would 450 tons last about a week?"

Vice Chairman Chung also boasted about the Haenam Motnani King Sweet Potatoes on his Instagram that day.
On the 24th, Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin posted two photos on his Instagram with the caption, "Made sweet potato mattang with Haenam sweet potatoes."
The photos revealed mattang made from the 'Haenam sweet potatoes' that Baek Jong-won had asked Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin to purchase in bulk on the recent "Delicious Rendezvous" program.
Previously, in December last year, Vice Chairman Chung purchased 30 tons of Gangwon-do Motnani potatoes at Baek's request on the same show. Interest in Motnani potatoes grew after the broadcast, leading to a sold-out record within two days.
