[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is accepting applications for the first semester of 'Gyeonggi Dream University' from high school students and out-of-school youth in the province until the 4th of next month.
Gyeonggi Dream University operates a total of 1,525 courses, including 759 visit-type courses where high school students visit universities and institutions in the province to attend classes, and 766 hub-type courses where instructors from universities and institutions visit designated local facilities.
This first semester's courses involve 122 institutions in total, including 95 universities and 27 public and specialized institutions. Notably, Hyundai Construction, SK Hynix, KBS Talent Development Center, and Korea District Heating Corporation Dongtan Branch are participating for the first time this year.
The first semester courses start on the 18th of next month and run for 8 weeks until July 25, with 17 sessions in total. The courses are free of charge, and to broaden the range of course options, Saturday classes have also been introduced.
To prevent COVID-19 infection, interactive online classes will be held until the second week after the semester begins, and offline classes will commence from June 15.
Students wishing to enroll can visit the Gyeonggi Dream University website (http://udream.goe.go.kr) and apply for up to three courses per person.
Application results will be announced through an online automatic lottery on April 27 for the first round, May 1 for the second round, and May 4 for additional selections.
Students who are not selected will be assigned a candidate ranking, and if any enrolled students withdraw, opportunities to attend will be given in order of ranking.
Han Gwan-heum, Director of the Village Education Community Policy Division at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, emphasized, "There are no regional restrictions on course enrollment in Gyeonggi Dream University, but it is necessary to consider transportation and areas of interest when applying. The Gyeonggi Office of Education will continue to strive to systematically provide opportunities for students to find and realize their dreams."
Since its inception in 2017 until the second semester of 2019, Gyeonggi Dream University offered 6,000 courses over six semesters, with a total of approximately 125,000 students enrolled.
