Seoul Facilities Corporation Partners with Private Companies to Transmit Traffic Management Center Information

Unexpected Situations on Seoul Urban Expressway Real-Time Guided by 'Tmap'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Now, when unexpected situations such as traffic accidents or emergency repairs occur on urban expressways in Seoul, including Gangbyeonbuk-ro and Olympic-daero, drivers will be able to check in advance via smartphone to detour or find alternative routes.

Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 22nd that, starting at midnight on the 23rd, it will launch a "Real-time Incident Alert Service" in collaboration with SK Telecom's T map. This service delivers real-time incident information on seven urban expressways passing through Seoul?Naebu Sunhwan-ro, Gangbyeonbuk-ro, Dongbu Expressway, Olympic-daero, Bukbu Expressway, Gyeongbu Expressway, and Gangnam Sunhwan-ro?covering a total distance of 171.7 km, directly to smartphone navigation systems.

Currently, road condition information on urban expressways is provided through electronic road signs, making it difficult to immediately confirm accidents or construction in sections without such signs or when drivers do not closely observe them.

To resolve these inconveniences, Seoul Facilities Corporation has established a system that transmits road condition information from the "Seoul Urban Expressway Traffic Management Center" to private companies such as T map in real time. Starting with this, there are plans to expand the real-time incident alert service to platforms like Naver, Kakao, and Mappers.

Cho Sung-il, Director of Seoul Facilities Corporation, said, "With the introduction of this service, we expect to reduce the costs of installing additional electronic road signs, enhance citizen convenience, and contribute to improving road traffic safety by preventing accidents." He added, "We will continue to do our best to improve convenience and ensure safety for citizens."
