[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Customers accustomed to offline payment methods can now shop online more easily.
E-commerce platform Cafe24 announced on the 21st that it will support the convenience store payment system of integrated electronic payment service company Galaxia Communications for online shopping mall operators. This is the first application of its kind in the industry.
Convenience store payment allows customers to order products online and then visit a nearby convenience store to pay in cash. Online shopping mall operators are expected to provide an environment where customers familiar with offline payment methods can purchase products more easily.
In addition, it is anticipated to offer a convenient purchasing experience not only to teenagers or foreign consumers who have difficulties using other methods such as credit cards or mobile micropayments but also to customers who face inconveniences due to complicated authentication procedures or account transfer fees.
Lee Jae-seok, CEO of Cafe24, said, “Providing a shopping environment where consumers can easily make payments both online and offline is an essential factor for the growth of online shopping malls,” adding, “We will continue to expand payment service support in line with e-commerce trends.”
Meanwhile, Galaxia Comms, the number one convenience store prepaid payment operator in Korea, provides customized payment services at offline customer touchpoints by utilizing a network of 40,000 convenience store locations nationwide. In particular, it was the first in Korea to commercialize the convenience store payment service developed based on real-time prepaid payment technology.
