[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] 'Son-in-law of Korea,' Larry Hogan, Governor of Maryland, USA, publicly revealed that he personally went to the airport to welcome the COVID-19 test kits transported from Korea.
On the 20th (local time), Governor Hogan shared on his Twitter a photo taken in front of a Korean Air plane that flew from Korea carrying COVID-19 test kits, together with his wife, Yumi Hogan.
Governor Hogan also introduced photos showing the test kits being unloaded from the plane and being transported. The photos were taken on the 18th.
Governor Hogan expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the test kits flown in from Korea, Maryland can now conduct over 500,000 COVID-19 tests."
According to The New York Times, Governor Hogan pointed out again that "the biggest problem is the lack of testing," and insisted, "Without dramatically increasing testing, we cannot begin to reopen (the economy)."
Governor Hogan added, "We have a very strong relationship with Korea," and indirectly expressed the difficulties in securing the test kits by saying, "This should not have been such a hard task."
The Times introduced that Hogan’s wife, a Korean immigrant, also helped with contract negotiations with Korean test kit manufacturers. The Washington Post also reported Hogan’s statement that Yumi Hogan was the hidden key figure in this deal.
Although Governor Hogan is a member of the Republican Party like President Donald Trump, he has not hesitated to criticize President Trump's mishandling of COVID-19.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maryland is 13,684.
