[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Singer Verbal Jint apologized after causing controversy by saying he was "glad" about the extreme choice made by a man in his 20s who possessed photos from the 'n번방' (Nth Room) case.
On the 13th, Verbal Jint posted a story (a post that disappears within 24 hours) on his Instagram saying, "If a few more people die, I'll release a commemorative song. Let's also reveal their identities," expressing these remarks.
The shared post included a screenshot of news reporting the death of a man in his 20s, a member of the so-called 'n번방' who produced and distributed sexually exploitative materials targeting teenage and twenty-something women on Telegram.
The article stated that the man, identified as Mr. A, was found dead by an apparent suicide in an apartment in Incheon. The investigation revealed that Mr. A's phone contained over 340 photos related to child pornography connected to the 'n번방' case.
During police questioning, Mr. A reportedly confessed, saying, "I was anxious as public calls for punishment of those possessing obscene materials related to the 'n번방' case increased after the arrest of the 'Doctor's Room' operator Cho Ju-bin," and admitted to possessing 'n번방' photos.
Netizens have been divided over Verbal Jint's comment, with some saying, "It's a reckless remark considering a person died," while others argue, "He said what needed to be said."
