[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Gyeongsangnam-do has filed charges against a man in his 60s residing in the jurisdiction who violated self-quarantine rules after entering from Vietnam.
On the 10th, Gyeongsangnam-do and Goseong-gun confirmed that a Korean man in his 60s, who was under self-quarantine after entering from Vietnam, violated the self-quarantine rules, and reported him to the Goseong Police Station on the previous day (the 9th).
The man entered the country on the 7th and was subject to self-quarantine until the 20th. However, it was found that around 9 p.m. on the 8th, he held a gathering with multiple outsiders at a friend's house, which was his quarantine location.
According to Gyeongsangnam-do, the man underwent a diagnostic test on the 7th, which came back negative. On the 8th, while attempting to notify him of this result via phone, officials heard voices of multiple people, indicating suspicious activity. Immediately, police and local health center staff checked the site and confirmed the gathering. After rechecking the site on the morning of the 9th, charges were filed.
Gyeongsangnam-do stated, "Regardless of the test results, if self-quarantine is violated, the related quarantine costs and damages will be claimed." According to the revised Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act, effective since the 5th, violating self-quarantine guidelines can result in imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
