[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The police plan to request an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s who approached Oh Se-hoon, the United Future Party candidate running for the Seoul Gwangjin-eul district in the April 15 general election, wielding a weapon at his campaign site.
On the 9th, the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station announced that they have booked and are investigating the man, who was arrested after approaching Oh's campaign vehicle with a weapon, on charges of special intimidation and violation of the Public Official Election Act.
The man approached candidate Oh around 11:10 a.m. near Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, while Oh was campaigning, but was stopped by police officers present at the scene. Although campaign staff including candidate Oh were at the site, no one was reported injured.
During the police investigation, the man stated that after finishing his night shift and trying to sleep, he committed the act out of frustration because his sleep was disturbed.
A police official said, "Considering the seriousness of the matter, we plan to request an arrest warrant."
