Yongsan-gu Completes Distribution of Disinfection Supplies to Daycare Centers (2nd Round) On the 7th, a Yongsan District Office official is delivering quarantine supplies to a daycare center.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seongjang Hyun) delivered supplies including dental masks (21,434 units), hand sanitizers (1,000 units), and thermometers (118 units) to 118 daycare centers in the district over two days on the 7th and 8th.

This is to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Box packaging was carried out on the 6th and 7th. Mayor Seongjang Hyun also participated in the work and encouraged the staff.

Since February, the district has suspended operation of about 70% of multi-use facilities in the area, including 118 daycare centers (40 public and corporate, 20 private and cooperative, 44 home-based, and 14 workplace daycare centers).

The daycare centers were scheduled to reopen on the 6th, but the district decided to indefinitely postpone reopening again in accordance with the government’s “social distancing” policy. However, emergency childcare for dual-income couples and others is allowed.

As of April, the average daily number of children using the district’s emergency childcare is 1,880 (an average of 16 children per daycare center), which is about 43% of the total enrolled children.

Last month, the district delivered the first batch of quarantine supplies (5,500 masks, 500 hand sanitizers) to all daycare centers in the area. If the district’s supplementary budget is approved this month, a third round of support supplies (4,360 masks, 500 sanitizers) will be additionally purchased and distributed.

Since the 16th of last month, the district has also been disinfecting daycare centers. Two public work personnel have been deployed to complete the work by the end of April. During the same period, safety management personnel from the district’s Childcare Comprehensive Support Center will conduct safety inspections of daycare centers during the thawing season.

As of the 8th, there are 17 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Yongsan-gu (13 under treatment, 4 recovered), and 950 people are under self-quarantine (101 domestic, 849 imported cases).

Seongjang Hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We are paying close attention to ensure that not a single confirmed case occurs in daycare centers,” and added, “We ask that families continue home care as much as possible until the situation is over.”
