[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea District Heating Corporation (Korea District Heating Corporation, KDHC) announced on the 8th that it has established and completed a demonstration test of an underwater cleaning robot test system for the cooling towers of combined heat and power plants. By allowing robots to clean the cooling towers instead of humans, it is expected to reduce safety accidents and save water.

According to KDHC on the day, they participated in the 'Market-Creation Type Robot Distribution Project' and completed a demonstration test after installing the test system at the Paju branch last year.

The project aims to create a market through practical application by pilot applying robots at the stage just before commercialization to demand institutions.

It also contributes to industrial technology advancement and the pioneering of new markets by domestic companies with technological capabilities.

The cooling tower of a combined heat and power plant is a facility that supplies cooling water to equipment to increase operational efficiency.

Over time, sediment accumulates, negatively affecting the operation of power generation equipment.

Previously, humans performed the cleaning, but KDHC expects that deploying underwater cleaning robots will prevent safety accidents and save water.

A KDHC official stated, "In the future, to respond to the 4th Industrial Revolution and strengthen worker safety, we plan to actively deploy underwater cleaning robots for cleaning cooling towers of combined heat and power plants."
