American Korean High School Student Delivers Medical Supplies to Rural Hospital Using Light Aircraft

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A Korean American high school student in the United States has gained attention for delivering medical supplies to small hospitals using a light aircraft.

On the 7th, the AP News reported that Korean American high school student TJ Kim (16) delivered 3,000 pairs of gloves, 1,000 protective helmets, 500 shoe covers, 50 non-surgical masks, 20 eye protection devices, and 10 bottles of hand sanitizer concentrate to a hospital in Woodstock, a small town in Virginia, using a light aircraft.

Kim, who hopes to enter the Naval Academy, is receiving flight training. As small hospitals suffered from shortages of supplies due to the spread of COVID-19, he took the initiative to help by using a training light aircraft together with his instructor.

Kim received flight lessons as a gift from his father when he was 16. It is known that Kim's father also helped secure the medical supplies for this project. The instructor, Dave Powell, also willingly participated in Kim's good deed.

His goal is to deliver medical supplies to eight rural hospitals in Virginia.

He plans to gradually deliver supplies to hospitals located farther away. AP News introduced, "Kim's flights will gradually become longer," and "If everything goes according to plan, his final flight will be to Clintwood, Virginia."
