According to the quarantine authorities and Daegu City, two confirmed patients related to the cluster infection at Hansarang Nursing Hospital in Daegu died on this day. An 83-year-old woman who was hospitalized and receiving treatment at the Daegu Veterans Hospital died around 6 a.m., and earlier at around 1 a.m., a 91-year-old woman receiving treatment at Daegu Medical Center passed away.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for COVID-19 announced that the cumulative number of deaths in the country as of midnight was 200. This is an increase of 8 from 192 the previous day. If the two deaths related to Hansarang Nursing Hospital are included, the cumulative death toll may increase further. As of the previous day, 125 confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported at Hansarang Nursing Hospital.
Meanwhile, the number of new confirmed cases increased by 53 from the previous day, totaling 10,384. After two consecutive days of 47 new cases on the 6th and 7th, the daily new cases again exceeded 50. There were 21 cases in the metropolitan area, including Seoul (11), Gyeonggi (6), and Incheon (4), and Daegu reported 9 cases, entering single digits. Fourteen new cases were confirmed through airport quarantine as imported cases. So far, the total number of imported confirmed cases is 832, of which 92.1% are Korean nationals.
Among the cumulative confirmed cases, 6,776 people have recovered and been released from isolation, an increase of 82 from the previous day.
