Eunpyeong-gu 'Smart Fine Dust Alert System' Construction

Secured 64 Million KRW Funding for Selected Projects in Former 'Fine Dust Reduction Autonomous District Special Project' Competition

Eunpyeong-gu 'Smart Fine Dust Alert System' Construction

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it has been selected for Seoul City's '2020 Fine Dust Reduction District Specialized Project' support program, securing a project budget of 64 million KRW to establish a smart fine dust notification system.

The 'District Specialized Project for Fine Dust Reduction' is a program where Seoul City invites applications from its 25 districts for specialized projects in emission reduction, exposure reduction, and new technology fields, and supports the selected districts with project funds.

Eunpyeong-gu was selected in the 'exposure reduction field' and plans to carry out the project to build a system that can quickly provide residents with more accurate fine dust information.

The 'Smart Fine Dust Notification System Construction Project' displays air measurement information and concentrations provided by urban air monitoring stations in real time on fine dust notification electronic boards. Currently, these boards are installed and operated at eight locations with high foot traffic, such as Yeonsinnae Mulbit Park and Gusan Station. This year, the system will be expanded by installing simple measuring devices and extending installation sites around daycare centers and senior citizen centers.

Additionally, Eunpyeong-gu has established and is implementing a 'Resident Participation Fine Dust Reduction Promotion Plan' consisting of 36 projects across five fields to protect residents' health. During emergency reduction measures, residents are promptly informed, and efforts are focused on strengthening dust control, restricting automobile use, and other fine dust reduction measures.

A district official stated, "We plan to continuously implement various fine dust reduction measures to respond quickly and efficiently to high-concentration fine dust occurrences," and added, "When the real-time displayed fine dust concentration is poor, we ask residents to wear masks when going outside and refrain from outdoor activities, showing their interest and participation."
