[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…Trevor Immelman (South Africa) will lead the 2021 Presidents Cup International Team.
The PGA Tour and the Presidents Cup organizing committee announced on the 8th (Korean time) that "Immelman will serve as the captain of the International Team." The U.S. captain has not yet been decided. The Presidents Cup is an intercontinental golf competition between the United States and the International Team. It is held biennially, alternating with the Ryder Cup, which features a showdown between the United States and the European Union. European countries are excluded from the International Team. In the 13 previous matches, the United States holds an overwhelming advantage with 11 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.
The 2019 tournament was held in Melbourne, Australia. The United States won 16-14. At that time, the U.S. captain was Tiger Woods, and the International Team captain was Ernie Els (South Africa). Next year's Presidents Cup will be held for four days from September 30, 2021, at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. Immelman was the 2006 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and the 2008 Masters champion. He has two PGA Tour wins and three European Tour wins. Born in 1979, he is the youngest captain in Presidents Cup history.
