[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Company officially launched the all-new 7th generation Avante, returning as a completely redesigned model after 5 years, in the domestic market on the 7th, drawing attention to the design evolution of the Avante across past generations.
Since its launch in the domestic market in 1990 under the name 'Elantra,' the Avante has become a global best-selling model with over 13.82 million units sold worldwide over the past 30 years. In 2014, 24 years after its launch, it became the first single Hyundai model to surpass 10 million cumulative sales. Globally, only about ten models, including the Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Golf and Beetle, and Honda Civic, have achieved the '10 million club' record.
Additionally, the Avante is a solid pillar of Hyundai's overseas market, with overseas sales accounting for 88% of global sales (553,008 units) including domestic export volume last year. In the domestic market, it was steadily sold at around 100,000 units annually until 2015, beloved as the 'people's car,' but recently has faltered under the rising popularity of SUVs. Hyundai is challenging once again for the title of the people's car with the upgraded 7th generation Avante.
The 7th generation new Avante features an innovative and sporty design that enhances design completeness, and improved driving performance with the adoption of the 3rd generation platform. It also strengthens safety with state-of-the-art safety and convenience features that surpass its class. The 7th generation Avante is offered with two engine lineups: ▲Smartstream Gasoline 1.6 MPI ▲1.6 LPi. Prices are set at 15.31 to 23.92 million KRW for gasoline models and 18.09 to 21.67 million KRW for LPi (general sales) models.
