[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), this year's Geneva Motor Show was canceled. In response, Volkswagen announced on the 7th that it will operate a 'Virtual Motor Show' where new cars can be experienced in virtual reality online until the 17th.
Volkswagen's 'Virtual Motor Show' goes beyond simply showcasing vehicles online and offers a new level of digital experience. All Volkswagen vehicles and booths are implemented in an interactive digital format, allowing visitors to have a vivid experience as if they were actually visiting the motor show venue.
Additionally, through a 360° experience, visitors can examine the displayed vehicles from all angles and actively participate by changing the vehicle's color and wheel configurations themselves.
J?rgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member and Head of Sales, Marketing, and After Sales, said, "Although the Geneva Motor Show was canceled, we are pleased to present Volkswagen's booth in a new way through virtual reality to customers who still have great interest in the motor show. Taking this opportunity, Volkswagen will be able to reach many more customers through virtual reality."
At the virtual reality booth, visitors can see the futuristic electric vehicle ID.3, Volkswagen's high-performance brand R's first hybrid and flagship model Touareg R, the new Golf GTI, Golf GTD, Golf GTE, and other 2020 brand new models. Additionally, on a separate registration page, users can create a brand ID to receive individual quotes and offers for upcoming new models.
Jochen Sengpiel, Head of Volkswagen Marketing, said, "This first-ever digital booth is just the first chapter of Volkswagen's new attempt to provide a future innovative online experience for sustainable development. The use of virtual reality will be an essential element not only for new experiential marketing but also for brand expression and interaction with customers and fans."
