[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will urgently provide Seongdong Love Gift Certificates and prepaid cards to 1,631 households on the 6th, following the application process for the ‘Seoul City Disaster Emergency Living Expenses’ that began on the 30th of last month.

The minimum processing time is only 7 days.

The ‘Seoul City Disaster Emergency Living Expenses’ is a project aimed at supporting households with incomes below 100% of the median income (for a family of four, income below 4,749,000 KRW) who are facing livelihood crises due to COVID-19, and revitalizing the local economy.

The support amounts are 300,000 KRW for 1-2 person households, 400,000 KRW for 3-4 person households, and 500,000 KRW for households with 5 or more members.

Recipients can choose between mobile Seongdong Love Gift Certificates (with a 10% additional benefit) and prepaid cards. Online applications are accepted from the 30th of last month until May 15th, and for those with mobility difficulties, a visiting application service is also provided.

From April 16th, applications can also be submitted in person at the community service centers.

The district office received applications for the disaster emergency living expenses starting March 30th, completed income investigations, and for 1,631 households meeting the income criteria, 758 households will receive mobile Seongdong Love Gift Certificates, and 873 households will receive prepaid cards on April 6th.

A resident, Mr. A, living in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu, said, “I have been working as a part-time lecturer, but due to the COVID-19 situation, I couldn’t work and life became very difficult. Thanks to the Seoul City Disaster Emergency Living Expenses, I feel relieved that I can breathe a little easier.”

Also, Ms. B, a single mother living in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, added praise for the Seoul City Disaster Emergency Living Expenses. “I run a small shop, but recently there have been no customers, so I couldn’t even pay the rent. My two children couldn’t go to school and stayed at home, which made childcare very burdensome. The Seoul City Disaster Emergency Living Expenses will be a great help,” she said.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “The most important thing about the Seoul City Disaster Emergency Living Expenses support is to provide it quickly to the recipients,” and added, “I hope it becomes a spark of hope that empowers residents facing difficulties during the national disaster.”
