Campaigning on the First Weekend After the Start of Electioneering
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Lee Nak-yeon, Chair of the COVID-19 National Crisis Overcoming Committee, said on the 4th, the first weekend after the start of the election campaign, regarding Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, "Even if I have different thoughts from Leader Hwang, I will not hate him."
At a campaign rally in front of Myeongnyun Saemaeul Geumgo in Myeongnyun-dong, Jongno, he stated, "If even a little hatred toward Leader Hwang arises in my heart, I will firmly keep my mouth shut and endure it." This was interpreted as a message urging cooperation to overcome the crisis as all citizens are suffering due to the COVID-19 situation.
Chair Lee said, "The valley of crisis caused by COVID-19 is still wide open before us. We must cross this valley," adding, "We must trust the great people and hold hands so that no citizen is left behind while crossing the river of crisis and the valley of suffering ahead of us. We must understand each other and not hate one another." He continued, "There may be people with different opinions, but I want to say, with my conscience, that I appreciate the government's efforts. I am also thankful to President Moon Jae-in and Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun."
Regarding the development of the Jongno area, he said, "On one hand, it preserves history and culture, and on the other hand, it can become a region that radiates modern dynamism and charm, so that we can pass down a proud and prosperous Jongno to future generations."
