Seongdong-gu Provides Up to 1 Million Won Support for Academy, Private Institute, and Reading Room Closures

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it will provide up to 1 million KRW in support for facilities such as academies, private institutes, and study rooms that voluntarily close by April 20 in response to social distancing closure recommendations.

The support targets a total of 544 facilities in Seongdong-gu, including 308 academies or study rooms and 236 private institutes. The closure support fund will be paid if the facility participates in continuous closure for at least 14 days during the period from March 23, the recommended closure start date, to April 20.

The application period is four days from April 21 to 24. Business owners or their representatives must submit the closure support fund application form, closure certificate, a copy of the business registration certificate, a copy of the representative’s ID, and a copy of the bankbook, each one copy, to Seongdong-gu Office via fax, email, or in person.

The district will conduct unannounced on-site inspections of participating businesses, and any business found operating will be excluded from the support program.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “The prolonged COVID-19 situation has caused significant business difficulties for academies and private institutes. As part of supporting the local economy, we hope this support fund will provide some help to academies and private institutes that actively participated in closures to prevent COVID-19. The district will also do its best to prevent further spread so that residents can quickly return to safe and happy daily lives.”
