[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] On the 3rd, 29 people died from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippines.

According to local media, the Philippine Department of Health announced that 385 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed on the day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,018.

The Philippines has the fastest spread of COVID-19 in Southeast Asia, with more than 300 new cases reported daily recently. Additionally, 29 people died from COVID-19 on the day, increasing the total death toll to 136.

Since the 17th of last month, the Philippines has locked down Luzon Island, home to more than 57 million people, which is over half of the country's population, including the capital Metro Manila. The lockdown order is now being expanded nationwide. Large sports facilities and convention centers in Manila are being converted into quarantine facilities.

However, as the spread of COVID-19 has not slowed, the government is considering extending the lockdown period and expanding the target areas.
