[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Vietnamese media reported that the salary of Park Hang-seo, the head coach of the Vietnam national football team, should be cut. The main content of the report is that economic damage caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) must be taken into consideration.

Vietnamese media Vietnamnet reported on the 2nd (Korean time), "Football teams around the world are implementing austerity measures due to COVID-19," and added, "Coach Park Hang-seo should also reduce his salary voluntarily."

Vietnamnet added, "Due to COVID-19, the sports industry is not operating normally, and everyone is facing difficulties. Some players and coaches have shared hardships by voluntarily cutting their wages."

However, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) stated on the 1st that there will be no salary reduction for Coach Park Hang-seo due to COVID-19. Recently, Coach Park also donated $5,000 (about 6 million KRW) to the Vietnamese government for COVID-19 prevention and treatment.

In response, Vietnamnet emphasized, "The VFF cannot easily cut Park Hang-seo's salary. Unlike other national teams, the salary is paid by Vietnamese conglomerates, not the VFF," and added, "Although Coach Park's donation is commendable, since there is currently no work, he should receive a lower salary."

They also explained that the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) cut the salaries of employees, including head coach Akira Nishino (Japan), due to the impact of COVID-19.

Vietnamnet reported, "Coach Nishino in Thailand reduced his salary to help the Thai national team. Our coach should follow the example of his Japanese colleague. He should feel more responsibility for Vietnam, his second hometown. He needs to do more."
