Yeosu Police Establish 'School Area CCTV Safety Network'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Women and Youth Division of the Yeosu Police Station in Jeonnam announced on the 2nd that, in order to respond swiftly to school violence and crimes targeting youth at the beginning of the new semester, they have directly investigated the presence of private CCTV installations, created customized electronic maps, and decided to establish a youth safety network around schools.

Recently, approximately 500 private CCTVs around schools were identified by school police officers, and including CCTVs for daily crime prevention, a total of about 2,086 CCTVs were confirmed to be installed in Yeosu City.

Additionally, 418 integrated control center CCTVs were confirmed to be installed around 93 elementary, middle, and high schools. This is very insufficient to respond to crimes occurring around schools. In particular, since there is no database for private CCTVs, the need to utilize them efficiently has been continuously raised.

Accordingly, the Women and Youth Division of Yeosu Police Station plans to utilize School Police Officers (SPOs) to conduct guidance activities around schools before the semester starts, continuously identify private CCTVs, and support various police activities such as crime prevention and suspect apprehension efficiently by inputting data into the Police Agency's GeoPros (Geographical Profiling System) database.

Chief Kim Geun stated, "Through the establishment of a youth safety network, we can respond swiftly to various crimes targeting youth, and it is also expected to be effective in rapid search and discovery within the golden time in cases involving elderly dementia patients, missing children, lost children, and traffic accidents." He added, "We will continue to do our best to build a safe school life for the youth of Yeosu City."
