Danish Prime Minister Talks with President Moon: "Looking Forward to Cooperation with Korea"

Postponement of the 2nd P4G Summit, Discussion on COVID-19 Response and Other Issues... "We Will Support with Diagnostic Kits and Quarantine Supplies"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the afternoon of the 2nd, President Moon Jae-in had a phone call with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, exchanging views on the schedule of the 2nd P4G Summit and measures to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. This call was initiated at President Moon's suggestion.

Prime Minister Frederiksen said, "In Denmark, the supply of medical equipment has emerged as an important issue, so cooperation with Korea in responding to the COVID-19 situation is highly anticipated."

President Moon said, "I understand that the Danish side and our companies are in discussions for the import of diagnostic kits," adding, "If you provide specific requests regarding the export of diagnostic kits, quarantine supplies, and medical supplies, we will actively consider providing assistance as much as circumstances allow."

President Moon emphasized the necessity of international cooperation for the early end of the COVID-19 crisis and expressed willingness to actively share clinical information related to quarantine and treatment experiences accumulated by our government with Denmark and the international community.

Meanwhile, President Moon said, "Due to the COVID-19 situation, the 2nd P4G Summit has inevitably been postponed to next year," and expressed gratitude for Denmark's understanding. He added, "We will seek the most desirable timing for the specific schedule through consultations with Denmark and other key P4G partners."

The Blue House explained, "Denmark launched the ‘Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G)’ as a global public-private initiative for climate change response and sustainable development, and held the 1st P4G Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, in October 2018."

Prime Minister Frederiksen said, "I fully support the Korean government's decision to postpone the P4G Summit," and added, "The decision by Korea to hold the P4G Summit next year demonstrates the President’s strong message of ‘green leadership.’"

Blue House spokesperson Kang Min-seok stated, "President Moon, while explaining the agreement at last week’s G20 special video summit, said that both countries should closely cooperate to minimize the negative impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the global economy and ensure smooth trade between countries, and Prime Minister Frederiksen also actively agreed with this."
