[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Son Heung-min (28, Tottenham), who plays in the English Premier League, will undergo basic military training at the 9th Marine Brigade in Jeju.

According to a report on the 2nd, Son Heung-min is scheduled to enlist in the Marines on the 20th and receive three weeks of basic military training. It has been confirmed that his service location will be Jeju Island.

Earlier, Tottenham, Son Heung-min's club, announced on their website on the 29th of last month that they had permitted Son Heung-min's temporary return to Korea.

Son Heung-min participated as a member of the national team in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, where he won a gold medal and received an exemption from military service.

Athletes who win a gold medal at the Asian Games or a bronze medal or higher at the Olympics are classified as arts and sports personnel, receive military service exemption benefits by completing basic military training, and participate in a certain amount of volunteer work.
