Plan Korea Supports Health of Vulnerable Children Left in Care Blind Spots Due to COVID-19

The international relief and development NGO Plan Korea has stepped up to ensure the safety and health of vulnerable groups and low-income children left in blind spots of care due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. On the 1st, they delivered emergency support kits consisting of groceries and personal hygiene products to vulnerable children in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region.

As COVID-19 continues to spread nationwide and prolong, the safety and health of children from vulnerable and low-income families are a growing concern. In particular, the sequential online school openings for elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as the indefinite closure of kindergartens, have intensified the hardships faced by vulnerable children left in care blind spots.

In response, Plan Korea has produced emergency support kits composed of groceries for basic nutrition and personal hygiene items such as masks, and is distributing them to vulnerable children nationwide, including those in the severely affected Daegu-Gyeongbuk region.

This emergency support kit was made possible through donations from various individuals and organizations, including ambassador comedian Kim Min-kyung, traditional musician Song So-hee, and the foreign legal advisory firm Linklaters. Out of a total of 1,000 kits, the first batch of 500 kits was delivered to children through 21 child welfare facilities.

A Plan Korea official stated, “We hope these kits will reach and help children suffering from COVID-19, and we deeply thank everyone who contributed to raising the funds. We also hope many more people will join in sharing to support vulnerable groups in the future.”

Meanwhile, Plan Korea has supported 3,286 people across 112 institutions with masks and hand sanitizers for COVID-19 relief and is preparing to distribute the second batch of emergency support kits.

Information about Plan Korea’s COVID-19 support activities and how to participate in donations can be found on the Plan Korea website.
