[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Hyung-jun, co-chairman of the United Future Party's joint election committee, stated, "This election will be a showdown between the side trying to save Cho Kuk and bring down Yoon Seok-yeol, and the side aiming to expose the regime's hypocrisy and protect Yoon Seok-yeol."
On the 2nd, Park appeared on YTN Radio's 'Noh Young-hee's Start of a New Morning' and said, "Whether intentional or not, this election has summoned Cho Kuk as a political symbol."
He added, "Although there is a concern that the regime's failures might be overshadowed by the COVID-19 crisis, we expect our wise citizens not to be swayed by the immediate situation and to hold them accountable," and said, "Judging by the nominations and the proportional satellite parties, it is clear that the ruling party has thoroughly nominated pro-Moon and pro-Cho Kuk candidates."
Regarding whether Representative Yoo Seung-min will join the election committee, he said, "Whether he joins the committee now or not has become less important, and we believe Yoo Seung-min is playing a significant role in his own way," adding, "The central election committee's seat is always open, so if he wishes, he can join anytime."
Regarding the recent controversy over harsh remarks toward President Moon Jae-in on the official YouTube channel 'Oreun Sori,' he emphasized, "It is necessary to have a serious attitude to uphold the people's aspirations," and "Throughout the election, the United Future Party will strictly criticize the current regime, but the election committee's policy is to maintain propriety and dignity." He also pointed out about United Future Party candidate Jeong Seung-yeon, running in Incheon Yeonsu-gap, and her 'humble place' remark, saying, "We should refrain from excessive criticism that disparages regions, personally insults individuals, or causes public disapproval."
Regarding the controversy over Representative Hwang Kyo-ahn's comment on the Nth Room case, saying "People who joined out of curiosity might have different judgments," he drew a clear line, stating, "That has nothing to do with harsh remarks," and "It seems to refer to the fact that legal sentencing may vary depending on the level of involvement of the participants," adding, "The United Future Party's stance on the Nth Room issue remains consistent with the principles of zero tolerance, strict punishment, and maximum penalty."
On the expected number of seats, he said, "Looking at the last general election, the Saenuri Party performed poorly not only in the metropolitan area but nationwide, contrary to expectations," and "This time, we expect it to be much better, especially if the public's desire for change, as shown in Gwanghwamun last fall, is expressed, we can secure nearly 130 seats nationwide in constituencies, including more than 50 seats in the metropolitan area."
