Gwangju City Election Commission Operates 'Mobility Convenience Vehicles' for Voters with Voting Participation Difficulties

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Commission announced on the 31st that it will operate mobility convenience vehicles for voters who have difficulty participating in voting.

For voters with difficulties such as those with severe disabilities and the elderly, 50 mobility convenience vehicles equipped to carry wheelchairs will be operated during the early voting days (April 10-11) and election day (April 15).

The Gwangju Election Commission plans to provide round-trip transportation convenience from the residence to the polling station by accepting advance applications from voters with difficulties in voting participation, and assign one activity assistant per vehicle to assist with moving to the polling station and exercising voting rights, thereby ensuring practical suffrage.

Citizens who wish to use the mobility convenience vehicles can apply by phone to the Gwangju Metropolitan City Transportation Disadvantaged Mobility Support Center (062-600-8900) from the 1st to the 15th of next month.

During the early voting period, the mobility convenience vehicles are equipped with facilities to ensure that wheelchair users can vote without inconvenience. In addition, round-trip transportation convenience will be provided mainly to base early voting stations staffed with specialized personnel for disability response, such as sign language interpreters.

A representative of the Gwangju Election Commission stated, “We will strive to ensure that voters with difficulties in participation, such as the disabled and the elderly, do not face any inconvenience in participating in the 21st National Assembly election.”
