Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Pan Ocean Win Order for One Ultra Large Crude Carrier

[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced on the 31st that it has secured an order for one Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) from Pan Ocean, a domestic global shipping company.

The newly ordered VLCC measures 336 meters in length and 60 meters in width, and is an eco-friendly vessel equipped with a scrubber, a desulfurization device.

This is the first Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering VLCC to comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s greenhouse gas emission regulation, the Energy Efficiency Design Index Phase 2 (EEDI Phase 2), which has been applied since this year.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering plans to build the vessel at its Okpo Shipyard and deliver it by the third quarter of next year.

According to Clarkson Research (as of the end of March), out of 815 vessels currently in operation from a single shipyard, 156 vessels (19.1%) were built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. Over the past three years (2017?2019), Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has secured orders for 41 VLCCs.

This year, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has secured orders for a total of three vessels worth approximately 400 million dollars, including two shuttle tankers and one VLCC.
