Seogwangjae, Head of Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative.
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Seo Gwang-jae, the head of Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative, will receive the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit in recognition of his contributions to the development of the aquaculture industry.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 31st that it selected 30 meritorious individuals who contributed to the development of the fisheries industry and fishing villages in celebration of "Fishermen's Day" on April 1st.
Fishermen's Day (April 1st every year) began as Fishermen's Day in 1969, was integrated into Farmers' Day in 1973, and was revived as Fishermen's Day in 2011. Since then, according to the "Framework Act on the Development of Fisheries and Fishing Villages" enacted in May 2015, the name was changed to Fishermen's Day, and a government-level commemorative ceremony has been held annually. However, this year's 9th Fishermen's Day ceremony, which was scheduled to be held in Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, was inevitably canceled due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The prestigious Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit will be awarded to Seo Gwang-jae, head of Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative, who has worked in the fisheries industry for 31 years and contributed to improving the management conditions of the fisheries cooperative and the development of the aquaculture industry.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to hold a separate medal and plaque presentation ceremony once the COVID-19 situation stabilizes. In addition, presidential citations, prime minister citations, and ministerial citations will be directly presented through local maritime affairs and fisheries offices.
