Fostering Future Science Talents and Supporting Eco-Friendly Social Enterprises

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] LG Chem is participating in enhancing the value of society and the environment through sharing activities in youth education and eco-friendly energy sectors, linked to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals.

In particular, it is focusing on social contribution activities targeting young people. Under the social contribution direction called "Love LG that nurtures young dreams," it is actively conducting educational programs for elementary and middle school students near its business sites, such as "Chemistry Playground" and "Chemistry Camp."

Among these, "The World I Create, Fun Chemistry Playground" was planned to raise interest in the environment and foster future scientific talents through fun chemistry experiments linked to the elementary school curriculum. This program offers students opportunities to participate in various science experiments and learn about the principles of chemistry in daily life at an experience center composed of four themes.

"Chemistry Camp that nurtures young dreams" is LG Chem's representative social contribution activity held for middle school students near nationwide business sites over 60 times since 2005, with more than 7,200 youths participating so far. In January this year, it was held twice, inviting about 200 middle school students, and operated an "Education Mentor Group" composed of university students to help students understand various experiential programs.

LG Chem was recognized for its continuous science education donation activities and contribution to nurturing future scientific talents, being selected as an "Excellent Institution for Education Donation" designated by the Ministry of Education in November 2018.

Meanwhile, LG Chem operates the "LG Social Campus" together with LG Electronics to discover and support the growth of social enterprises in the eco-friendly sector with high public interest and sustainability. LG Chem and LG Electronics provide financial support, interest-free loans, and office space rental to help various social enterprises in the eco-friendly sector establish a growth foundation, planning to support a total of 16 billion KRW by 2021.
